The Ball photographs record three-dimensional constellations placed into existing and often transitory or semi-permanent spaces. The placement of the balls, and the constellations they create, form subtle planes that touch, and at moments, envelope the space with their presence.

These homemade celestial planes, tilted through the floors, sills and surfaces of each scene disrupt and transform way we see, creating a sense of stillness, drawing our attention slowly around the scene, mapping out new patterns and connections.

The churches in this series feature none of the monumental architecture or symbols of status and power of the historically dominant denominations. In these churches the architecture is contingent. The buildings were never designed to be churches and this random collection of architectural structures has come about as the result of numerous acts of faith. Often temporary, semi-permanent or unconsecrated, they are sometimes anonymous and almost invisible. They are located where we would least expect to find them, in industrial estates, shopping parades, houses, garages, cinemas, above pubs and commercial properties.

They reflect a wide and diverse range of denominations and sects that form what can be broadly described as the ‘charismatic evangelical movement’. Made up of White, Afro-Caribbean and African initiated churches, they form a grass roots do-it-yourself spiritualism, a movement where faith is intrinsic and God is personally experienced.
